In just two weeks, some of the world's best athletes will converge in Paris for the chance at ultimate glory. However, the journey starts long before this summer. Over the past year, I've had the joy of learning hundreds of stories of Olympian hopefuls who are using GoFundMe to pursue their dreams. It's a career highlight for me to help send these athletes to Paris and I will no doubt be emotional as they go for Gold. If you're interested in learning more about the work we've been doing at GoFundMe around the Paris Games, you can read more here: https://lnkd.in/giXZ8Cc3And if you're looking to support an athlete or their family, you can search through these amazing stories on our Paris Games hub: https://lnkd.in/gJid8FbE

The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games ‘one year on’ evaluation report shows the positive impact the Games has had on widening access to sport and physical activity; one of Sport England's key aims. The report shows the Games contributed £1.2 billion to the UK economy, with £79.5 million of social value creation, including community benefits and increases in wellbeing and earnings of volunteers and those trained as part the Games. Two of the facilities Sport England invested in for the Games wereCannock Chase Forestand theSandwell Aquatics Centre. The DCMS report highlights that, one month after Sandwell opened, it had acquired 4,400 members and welcomed over 60,000 visitors, with 70% of these participants coming from the top 30% most deprived areas.Great to also see that through a 10-year partnership with another one of our clients, West Midlands Combined Authority, Sport England will continue to create inclusive opportunities for people to play sport and get active.Find out more: https://lnkd.in/e4DD7Td2

"Fail, fail, fail better."The ULTILEAGUE project was first introduced in 2019, and now, we're thrilled to announce its relaunch for 2024! This mantra holds a special place for me because it reminds us that it's perfectly fine to stumble along the way, as long as we're not relentlessly pursuing a futile endeavor. The original vision for the league still stands strong, and it remains a platform where mixed clubs can flourish, fostering robust Ultimate communities worldwide with a strong focus on fan engagement.Because the problems within the Ultimate world, tis that club communities face challenges in expanding their fanbase. The current options for mixed clubs typically involve participating in events where they are among 7 to 39 other mixed clubs competing in their division but also with other divisions. Individual matchups or fixtures seem unattainable, particularly in Europe. Nevertheless, we believe there's a middle ground where we can invite 4 clubs to compete per game weekend. We've persevered and made numerous attempts to launch ULTILEAGUE, and now, we're excited to share that this project is finally becoming a reality! It's all thanks to the budgets we received from our incredible community over the years. Your contributions for the teams played a pivotal role in making this campaign happen, and the remaining funds have been allocated for prize money. You can find more details in the video below in the post below: https://lnkd.in/e23nv3VC

Last week I had the honor of being part of the panel for “Play Equity: We All Benefit When Kids Play” at the LA84 Play Equity Summit. Growing up in Los Angeles, sports, specifically swimming and water polo, taught me various valuable skills that I am able to use both in my professional and personal life. Check out this quick read on why Play Equity matters!

Latest "Introduction" from Sports Doing Good (issue #429) - Theme: Honor Through ActionOne of the great things I have seen over the years doing the Sports Doing Good newsletter is the growth of social responsibility and social good; not just as concepts, but rather as action items. I call it “honor through action.” You may have been one of the thousands who has run a 5K or 10K or even a marathon in honor of someone’s passing and to raise money to fight for a cure for whatever ailed them. I must believe that is why we have seen an uptick in the past 15 years in running these races, and that is awesome. One of the stories this week involves such “honor through action,” and it entails running, but in a different form. Instead of running a straight race, several coaches and staffers from both the New York Jets and Atlanta Falcons, the teams competing against each other on Sunday, participated in the "Knapp Stair Climb" before team warmups Sunday in support of The Coach Knapp Memorial Fund to raise money for distracted driving awareness.Coach Knapp was Greg Knapp, who was a coach for both the Jets and Falcons, and a few other NFL teams, in his career. As indicated by the focus of the memorial fund, Coach Knapp fell victim to a distracted driver while riding his bicycle. Incredibly, 50 people per day die from distracted driving. This run of the stairs by both teams is surely a great example of “honor through action.” Kudos to the Knapp family for starting the fund in order to raise awareness and money towards making all of us better when it comes to staying focused when we are on the road, whether driving, biking, scootering, etc. And kudos to all of the participants, now and in the future, in the Knapp Run. It sounds like more pro and college teams around the country are taking part. That is great for all involved and great for society. Surely, another example of sports doing good. https://lnkd.in/eFBmNUu4

Exciting News! BBC Partners with Netball Super League to Boost Women’s Sport! As the mother of a very passionate netballer, I was thrilled to see that the BBC has just signed a two-year deal with the Netball Super League (NSL).Starting this season, you can watch one live NSL match per round on BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport website, and app.Why is this a game-changer? Visibility Matters: By broadcasting NSL matches, the BBC is putting women’s netball in the spotlight. This means more eyeballs, more fans, and more recognition for these incredible athletes. Funding Boost: The BBC deal injects much-needed funds into women’s sport. It’s like a financial shot in the arm for the NSL clubs, grassroots netball, and the entire ecosystem. Inspiring Participation: When young girls see their role models on TV, they dream bigger. Representation matters, and this partnership will inspire more girls to pick up a netball and shoot for the stars. Sponsorship Impact: The BBC’s involvement also opens doors for sponsorships. This is an incredible opportunity for Brands to align with women’s sports, it provides a prime platform to support and engage with fans. It’s a win-win for both athletes and sponsors! Changing the Game: The NSL has been a trailblazer, and this collaboration is a great testament to its growth (and perseverance). It’s not just about the game; it’s about creating a legacy for future generations.#NetballSuperLeague #WomenInSport #GameChangerP.S. Tag your netball-loving friends and spread the word! By The Numbers: The rise of youth sports comes with a need to house a large number of events 🏀Trae Young & hisThe Trae Young Family Foundation recently opened the Young Family Athletic Center in Norman, OK and are an example of a group that has contributed to the $3.1 Billion spend on sports facilities. (H/T: Sports Business Journal)Sports facilities provide a vast number of opportunities directly to their surrounding communities, but they additionally allow for the hosting of local tournaments that drive sports tourism dollars up, creating a more vibrant community and injecting spend into local businesses. While investments in sports facilities continues to rise and youth sports becomes increasingly privatized, it is important that a focus on accessibility and affordability is maintained.#youthsports#aau#sportsbusiness#sportsbiz
