The 63-year-old Cape Coral resident who drew attention last week after officials called his residence "a breeding ground for vermin" cleaned his back yard enough to pass a Wednesday code enforcement inspection. Walton, who lives on Montclair Court near the Cape Coral Yacht Racquet Club, had his back yard piled with mounds of material he's accumulated over the past two decades. After the conditions drew complaints from neighbors, code enforcement officers investigated and gave Walton a week to clean things up. City spokesman Frank Rinella said piles of trash constituted "litter and debris" and bags of rotting food could draw vermin. Walton also had about 36 lawnmowers and parts, piles of used tires, bicycle remnants, mounds of aluminum cans and piles of other miscellaneous items behind hedges.

Lottery First Lotto drawing By The Associated Press TALLAHASSEE Florida lottery players have won more than $3 billion from Lotto, Fantasy 5, Play 4 and Cash 3, lottery officials said Wednesday as the computerized play approached its fourth birthday. The first Lotto drawing was held on May 7,1988. If all prizes won in the 208 drawings since that date had been split by all Floridians 18 and older, the payout would be about $300 each, the Lottery Department announced. Florida's first Lotto jackpot' was worth about $2 million. Now, estimates for a new weekly game start at $6 million or $7 million, the largest starting jackpot in the country.

California and New York start at about $3 million. Jury sees confession of Wuornos By The Associated Press OCALA Jurors watched the videotaped confession Wednesday of death row inmate Aileen Wuornos as authorities renewed their search for the body of one of the seven men she has admitted killing. Wuornos, 36, had waived her right to be present during the penalty phase of her second murder trial before Circuit Judge Thomas Sawaya. Jurors will decide whether to recommend the death penalty for the former prostitute on her no-contest pleas to first -degree murder charges in three slayings. Wuornos has claimed she killed the seven men when they became violent or abusive after picking her up for sex along Florida's highways.

Prosecutors rested their case Wednesday. Wuornos' attorney, Steve Glazer, then led off his case by playing his client's taped confession to investigators. Meanwhile, Marion County sheriff's investigators went to South Carolina to search for the body of Peter Siems, a missionary from Jupiter, after Wuornos told authorities Sunday that she dumped his body there.
