Superintendent of Schools James Ayre. reported he received a letter: from Dr. Anton Hess, deputy commissioner of basic education for Pennsylvania, who warned if the curriculum in the district is changed so it reduces the quality of education, a new team of evaluators would reinspect 'Hess district. Dr. stated he received an, unsigned letter from a resident of the Wyoming Area School District.

It is the commissioner's normal practice to ignore unsigned letters, he added, but this one contained a number of newspaper clippings district. stating the plight of the school John Kennedy, acting director of school evaluation for the State, was made aware of the content of the letter and news articles by Dr. Hess. Are stated the commissioner is keeping a sharp eye on the affairs of the school curriculum and will not hesitate to reinspect the school at any time. On recommendation of the policy committee which Yanik heads, the board voted to change the July 15 meeting date to July 29.

Resignation Bid Fails Because Of Tie Vote Wyoming Area. School Board, at last night's meeting, deadlocked 4-4 when John LaNunziata of Exeter tried to resign his post. Motion to accept the resignation failed as a result of the split vote. Board also failed to pass the budget on a 4-4 vote. This will halt financial business in the district for one month or until the next regular meeting.

An estimated 300 taxpayers attended the meeting, Charles Adonizio presided at the session which was attended by Richard Harding, Casimir Kizis, Charles Lahr, Evans, Harrett, Stanley Yanik. LaNunziata was not present at the meeting. Barrett, board secretary, read the letter of resignation of LaNunziata, board chairman, who wishes to resign immediately because of pressing business matBarrett moved the resignation be accepted with regret. On the motion to accept the resignation, Harding, Kizis, Lahr and Evans voted no, and the remainMattered was yes. to be With a tie considered vote the at the next board meeting.

Those voting not to accept the resignation are all Republicans while LaNunziata is a Democrat. Finance committee report was not approved by the board. On the report of the finance committee, Harding, Kizis, Lahr and Evans teamed and voted against the 1968-69 school budget. All Democrats voted in favor of the budget with the exception of a articles Budget 19 and restored 20. the curriculum first suggested by the and the $3,000 previously taken from the coaching staff.

Harding said he wanted the coaches appointed before the salaries adopted, but Barrett. explained the money first must be appropriated before the coaches are appointed in July as is the custom. When LaNunziata's resignation is accepted board be made up of four Republicans and four Democrats. Since they probably will. not be able to agree on a successor in a 30- day period, appointment will be made by the Luzerne County Court.

Since the board president is from Exeter, it appears that Jerry Clapps, Exeter Borough Democratic chairman, will play a prominent roll in naming successor.
